Army Pvt. Charles S. Cooper, Jr.

Pvt. Cooper's aunt, Cheryl Ansell wrote
these words in remembrance of her nephew:

"Pvt. Cooper's mother and father are so proud of him. He graduated in June of 2004 from Jamestown, NY High School. He had his goals set on the joining the Army and he did that knowing the danger he would be facing in Iraq which took much courage and bravery.

Charles was a fun loving kid who loved baseball, basketball along with his 3 older brothers. He had also taken up videography in school. One of his older brothers, LaVerne Patrick, said Charles was the big comedian and he always made us laugh.

Charles loved to fish and hunt with his father. Many pictures hang in the Cooper livingroom of Charles and his father with deer they had hunted.

Steve, Charles' father, said Charles always stuck up for his brothers who also in turn always looked out for him. They were very close.

Charles had been awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received in another bomb attack just 17 days before he died.

He called his dad to tell him about meeting Donald Rumsfeld, and was so excited. He had a chance to come home but he wanted to get right back out there and do his job.

He had dreams of becoming a state trooper and those dreams were ended on April 29th 2005 when he was killed in an explosion in Baghdad, Iraq.

At his funeral services he was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism, Expenditionary Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, 2 Purple Hearts and last but not least the Bronze Star.

Charles is the youngest of 6 children, they are Steven Charles, David Cooper, LaVerne (Patrick) Cooper, Danielle (Cissy) Cooper, and Jennifer Cooper. He was born February 25th, 1986 to Charles Steven Cooper, Sr. and Sherry Weaver in Jamestown, New York."

A Soldier in
the Army of God

I am a soldier in the army of my God
The Lord Jesus Christ is my Commanding Officer.
The Holy Bible is my code of conduct.
Faith, prayer and the Word are my weapons of warfare.

I have been taught by the Holy Spirit,
Trained by experience,
Tried by adversity
And tested by fire.

I am a volunteer in this Army,
And I am enlisted for eternity.
I will not get out,
Sell out,
Be talked out,
Or pushed out.

I am faithful,
Reliable,
Capable,
And dependable.

If my God needs me,
I am there.

I am not a baby.
I do not need to be pampered,
Petted,
Primed up,
Pumped up,
Picked up,
Or pepped up.
I am a Soldier.

I am not a wimp,
I am in place,
Saluting my king,
Obeying his orders,
Praising his name,
And building his Kingdom!

No one has to send me flowers,
Gifts, food, cards or, candy.
I do not need to be cuddled,
Cradled,
Cared for, or catered to.
I am committed.

I cannot have my feelings hurt
Bad enough to turn me around.
I cannot be discouraged enough
To turn me aside.
I cannot lose enough
To cause me to quit.

When Jesus called me into His Army,
I had nothing,
If I end up with nothing,
I will still come out ahead.
I will win.

My God has and will continue
To supply all of my needs.
I am more than a conqueror.
I will always triumph.
I can do all things through Christ.

Devils cannot defeat me.
People cannot disillusion me.
Weather cannot weary me.
Sickness cannot stop me.
Battles cannot beat me.
Money cannot buy me.
Governments cannot silence me.
And Hell cannot handle me.
I am a Soldier.

Even death cannot destroy me.
For when my Commander
Calls me from this battlefield,
He will promote me to Captain
And then allow me to rule with Him.
I am a Soldier in the Army,
And I am claiming victory.

I will not give up.
I will not turn around.
I am a soldier,
Marching Heaven Bound.
